New cranking noise with the fixed Starter diesel engine

Asked by May 14, 2018 at 06:49 PM about the 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife brought diesel Toyota Hilux to the
mechanics.  She does not know what exactly they
did. When I started the car, the starter works but  it
makes a very different cranking noise. A noise that
I ve never heard when starting a diesel engine.
What possibly could be the reason? The only thing
I know is the price $125. Is it possible they
replaced the starter with a less powerful one?
Won't it damage the engine?
