Timing chain or distributor cap, rotor, and wires

Asked by Christine Dec 26, 2015 at 03:01 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4-Door 4WD

Question type: General

Have replaced the ignition module, fuel coil, fuel
filter, fuel pump, and spark plugs. Wondering if it
may be the timing chain or the distributor cap and
rotor and wires? Truck still won't start. Is firing but
won't turn over.

Squirt a little blast of starting fluid in the intake. If it fires, you have spark, but no fuel.

Used starting fluid and regular gasoline and that didn't work either. Got fuel smell and have pressure also. Truck won't turn over. ???

If it is not trying to start with starting fluid then it has no spark or no compression. Most likely no spark. Need to determine why it has no spark. Did it have a check engine light on before it quit? If so it would be real handy to see what the code(s) were.

Take a plug out and put a wire on it and ground the outside of the plug while cranking the engine to check for spark. If the timing had gotten way off for some reason it would have spark but still not run.

It has a light yellow spark, but not blue. Check engine light was on and the diagnostic tester showed no codes.
