Question type: General

On the 2007 ML 320 CDI.
What if I have to use regular diesel, what problems will I face?
What does make the car need a specific kind of diesel? What if I live in a city that only has regular diesel, can I make any alteration to use regular diesel?
Thank you.

Dear Young-- Your dealer should have explained all this to you when you bought your 2007 Mercedes-Benz ML 320 CDI. I asked Al Swirka in the service department at Herb Chambers' Flagship Motorcars in Lynn, Ma. He said those cars are indeed designed to run on premium diesel only because of its low sulfur qualities. If she can't find someone selling the premium diesel, it probably wouldn't hurt to run a tankful of regular diesel through the engine, but it is not recommended unless absolutely necessary, Swirka said. Good luck from Bovan.

It's because the higher sulfur diesel fuel will clog up the particulate filter. Don't know what that costs but I'm sure it's not cheap!

Regaular Diesel in the us is now ULSD or ultra low sulfur diesel with a maximum 15 parts per million (ppm) of sulfur content. European diesel is known to have a higher cetane content, but most diesels in this country imported from Europe are tuned for the fuel available in this country. Enjoy your diesel
