when do you need to change the catalytic converter?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had my fuel and induction system cleaned and the mechanic mentioned a
rotten egg smell which might indicate a problem with the catalytic converter.  
What are my next steps to check this out?

Usually if catalytic plugs up, u'll get a check engine light on but take it to a shop and they can check it with a live data scanner

U may want to take it to a different mechanic cause if this one just wanted to rip u off, he's gonna say that u need it
