PCM swap

Asked by Joshua Mar 07, 2016 at 10:36 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Lumina LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just swapped my pcm on my 97 lumina 3100 with
a pcm from a 97 Buick le sabre. Is there a way to
make this work without reprogramming or
flashing? I'd rather not have to get it towed to the
shop and spend $120 for them to flash it.
Swapping the pcm fixed all my problems except
for the fact it will not start but will turn over and I
have spark, fuel, and air flowing. Seems the pcm is
not allowing my injectors to pulse.

Ok, you have something with the security system being activated. When the security is activated, it shuts down the injectors. I suspect changing the pcm it is not recognizing the chip that is in the key, or something. Unfortunately I do not know much about security system, just that I know it is activated. If you have that other car you could try and take out the key lock & cylinder and install into your car. I would investigate this further.

The security light shuts off after a few seconds and the passkey has been bypassed for remote access by the previous owner. Before I swapped the pcm I wasn't getting any power to my fuel pump and the computer wouldn't link up to obd scanners. Now I have power to fuel pump and can connect with my scan tool and the service engine light is on but there are no codes.

Honestly, I don't know anymore than what I have told you. The guy who knows security systems & more on pcm swaps has not ben on lately. js08016 is his handle, maybe try and find his garage and shoot him an e-mail. Sorry.
