97 Chevy Cavalier starts & shifts to all gears but does not move

Asked by susan_hand Mar 08, 2012 at 07:20 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was at a stop light when the light changed & I hit the gas but the car would not move. We tried reverse and it still would not move. We put it in neutral & pushed it around the corner. It starts fine & the shifter changes into each gear but car will not move. I am hoping it is not that I need a new tranny and that it will be a much easier fix. I just bought it from a so called friend & 3 days later it did this.

I had this same problem. Mechanic put in new fuel pump but he said there was a problem with the wiring. Towed it to a shop and they said the car was starting and was fine. Car was ok for 6 weeks then the battery light came on again and the car wouldn't move. Towed back to mechanic now the car will turn over but not start and the battery light stays on the mechanic has no clue. Any suggestions?
