speed meter not working all the time

the speed o meter stops working when you get to 35 or 40 mph and starts working agin when you slow back down to that speed what could be the problem and how do I fix it?thanks

you may need to change out the pliastic gear in the tranny,easy fix.

SORRY misread the year,disregard post,yes your speed sensor could be going bad.
