Question type: General

I recently bought a 2007 mustang gt. I have been

by shelby. Its is 5 speed with 4.6L under the hood.
How can I tell what it truly is??

That's not a Shelby, Hurst, or Cali Special. What you have there is a basic Mustang GT. If it were a Shelby GT, it would have hoodpins, different graphics, and a different body kit. There is no Hurst edition Mustang. If it were a Cali Special, instead of GT logos on the side you would have CS/GT decal logos and your rear trunk emblem would say "California Special" on it. You'd also have leather and suede seats.

As an avid Mustang collector all my life, I can assure you again that what is pictured is NOT a Shelby GT or a California Special. Hurst made a 1 of 1 2010 Mustang GT to lead the pace lap at Indy in 2010, which was a different body style than the '05 - '09. Mustangs have many trim levels and the general public constantly gets them confused, but believe me when I say I can tell just by that one picture that you either have the base GT or, if you have leather seats, the GT Premium. I hope that you did not get charged for a special edition. If so you need to get your money back. The GT's are great cars, but the price difference between a Shelby GT and a GT Premium is significant.

Thanx ya’ll. I didn’t overpay. I actually got a great deal on it. The Paperwork I recently found says GT premium but I just didn’t know what that entails. The person I bought it from is the one who told me he thought it was a Hurst model but the research I did showed me that they didn’t come out with one until later models. I do have the leather interior & it is a 5 speed. What other than the hood scoop, spoiler, leather interior, shaker sound system, & increased hp is found in the GT premium?? The only aftermarket mod is a k&n air filter. This is my first pony to own even though I have raced with many friends who have them but with a ton of mods made.

Well, for starters, there is absolutely NO difference in horsepower between the base GT and the GT Premium. The base model also gets a spoiler and some even come with the hood scoop. The only upgrades you get with the premium are: leather seats (possibly heated), MyColor gauge option (allows you to change the gauge colors...a really neat option IMO), and an aluminum dash panel versus a black aluminum dash panel. The rims are also a little different on certain Premium models. While it is also possible to get the Shaker system in the base GT, the Premium had the option of the 1000-watt system. You would know if you had this as it takes up the majority of your trunk. That's really all there is to it...creature comforts. The Premium was a fancy way of saying "Leather seats and MyColor" really.
