I have the same issue on my 02 GS, the bulb is burned out. GM doesn't sell the bulbs individually, what I have been told is that I have to replace the whole cluster. Now that is worth almost 700 dollars. The cheap way is to pull the cluster and replace that light, you need to be good at soldering. Those are the two options that I have been able to come up with.

I had the exact same issue. Watched a youtube video on how to remove the front part of the dash, then the instrument panel. There are 3 or 4 RESISTERS. You can buy these for about $5 at Radio Shack. You need a low heat soddering iron to attach them. The backside of the instrument panel in like a mother board on your computer. I simply pushed off the old ones and soddered on the new ones. Trust me, I don't do this everyday and I watched the video 10 times before attempting this. It wasn't that hard. Just relax and keep track of your screws as you take things apart. I was quite proud of myself for fixing this. I love having the lights working on my instrument panel! By the way I am a 58 yr old woman! And no I am not a mechanic!
