Dead battery after car sits for day

Asked by ParkAvenueHeartbreak... Jun 25, 2016 at 03:11 PM about the 2002 Buick Park Avenue FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My vehicle will not start after sitting for a day. Jumping it
gets it started and keeps it on. However, this problem
continues after a jump. Was wondering if it's my security
alarm causing parasitic drain or a bad alternator? Or
something else?

That is a possibility is the alarm/remote start an aftermarket product? If it is not the alarm/remote start I would have your battery tested. If it is not the car battery they it could be the alternator. Hope this helps!

When was the last time you had the battery replaced? If it is over 5 years I would replace the battery and have the alternator tested. If the issue continues take it to a reputable mechanic for parasitic current draw diagnosis.

I have the same problem. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the wiring harness and ran other diagnostics. They kept my car for a month and were not able to fix the problem.
