radio will not shut off 2002 v70.

Asked by zadfrak Apr 27, 2015 at 03:43 PM about the 2002 Volvo V70 T5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yesterday, the radio would not come on or display anything. Today, after driving an hour, it started up again. But none of the controls would work---volume or change stations, etc. Then, when taking the key out of the ignition, it continued to play for 3 hours. I pulled the 15 amp stereo fuse to shut it off. Any ideas?

Our 2002 V70 XC and our 2003 S40 both have radio problems. Presets for stations not "holding the station" and erratic skipping from station to station. Other consomer related sites suggest that Volvo has a problem and that the Volvo dealers are ill equipped to help us. Good News: An independent auto repair shop owner located a "Flash Memory" update for the 02 V70 Xc transmission software. Our closest Volvo dealer found the update and reprogrammed the transmission software. This has made significant improvement in the smoothness of the shifting of this vehicle.
