2005 volvo s40 loud thump in reverse and drive, does not want to go could it be brakes

Car was driving fine until this morning.  Now it makes loud noise in reverse
and drive and shakes some.  Just put on new brake pads and rotors on front
could that be the problem?

More than likely. Some times it is hard to see when installing brake pads that there is a difference between the two that go into the caliper. I would look at this closely to see if their installed correctly.
