I own a 2001 S40 1.9T volvo. I am getting very low gas milage.

Asked by planner Aug 29, 2014 at 12:52 PM about the 2001 Volvo S40 Turbo

Question type: General

The engine light turned on and I took it to a specialist and scanned the car.  The code showed that it needs a new thermostat, the specialist said that the car is not reaching the right temperature and that it may be the reason for the. low gas mileage.??

Please give me your opinion, thank you.

No scanner nor automotive OBD On Board Diagnostic can pinpoint the thermostat. It can come close, as in P0128 is as close as it can get, it is a fault that says coolant temperature too low but there are other possible reasons for that http://www.obd-codes.com/p0128 ..and yes if it is not reaching op temp the gas mileage will suffer, the ECU will adjust the timing and fuel/air trim
