Will bad brake lining cause an accident, I realize it's not a great idea to drive a car with any problems with the brakes, but I have no other option...

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replace the front pads about 2 months
ago. It was grunting a little at first, I was
told the pads just needed to seat. Well..
Wrong it grinds terribly when light pressure
is applied to pedal. Stops on a dime and no
noise when fast heavy pressure is applied.
Is this even a lining problem?

Did you have the brake rotors turned?

If it was just two months ago one of the calipers piston is seized or an collapsed brake hose or the pins that the caliper slides on is seized. Does the vehicle pull to one side when you apply the brakes ? I would take it back to whoever did your brake job and ask them to look at the brakes again because it is not normal for brakes to grind and after two months the brakes have been seated along time ago.

@firebird, if the rotors were deeply grooved and brake pads were changed they will roar for quite some time until they are worn to the rotor. Certainly this is not they proper way to do a brake job, but it happens every day.
