1998 Chevy Suburban is there a fuse for the fuel pump?

Asked by locher4 Jan 21, 2012 at 08:25 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban C1500 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ran fine, could not get it to start & sounds like the fuel pump is not engaging. No loud "humming" noise when you try and fire it up. Started fine 4 times then finally nothing. I have power and all that jazz, alternator was just replaced.

The ECM fuse controls the fuel pump.if not blown, fuel pump is bad.

There is a thermal fuse device inside the pump itself so it wont catch on fire in case of pump motor failure, but on the exterior, it is controlled by a relay in the fuse block, it could be bad, but it is more likely that the pump is bad and needs replacement, it's not too bad of a job.

Try looking in the engine relay center, located on driver side under hood inside fender, this contains fuses and relays which control your engine operations as well as fuel pump relay.

Do a fuel pressure check first. You can buy a tester for around $20. Do this before ever replacing your fuel pump.
