Where is the thermostat temperature gauge sensor

My car is telling me that is running hot but
it's not so I was trying to figure out where is
the sensor at for that is saying is 260
degrees but it's not

Are you talking about coolant temp sensor? Three wire connector, wire colors, black-yellow-dark green.
