How many miles will this car last?

Asked by auditaylor Dec 02, 2015 at 10:39 PM about the 2006 Audi A6 3.2 quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: General

I'm going to buy an Audi A6 Wagon, and it currently has 131k miles. I want to
keep it for about four years and I live in a small town, so about 10-15k miles a
year. How long will it last? (Miles wise)

It comes down to maintenance. It could easily go another 100K, provided the first 100K were well maintained. Ask to see the maintenance records on the vehicle. A good mechanic can give it a once-over to look for signs of bad maintenance.

We just had it checked out today. There was nothing wrong with the car, it was well maintained. It was bought at auction and had no major signs of wear-and-tear. The mechanic also told us it was better than about 75% of the cars he inspects.

auditaylor- So, why are you buying this car? Is it because you're in a small town and don't have many choices? I would definitely recommend taking your time to have a mechanic check it out. If they won't let you do that , run away. And, 131,000 miles is an awful lot of miles even for a 2006, that is almost 15,000 per year. Can they provide the maintenance records, was it a one owner car? Have you seen the condition inside and out, is it immaculate? If you could find a car with 100,000 miles, I would say it would be better. And, it really depends on your tempermant for dealing with repairs, and after 150,000 or even a little sooner, you're going to have some things breaking down. I wouldn't purchase this, but, that's just me. Good luck.

auditaylor, sorry, just read that you had your mechanic check it out, but, and this is critical, can you obtain any service records? And, you know, it would have been better if the car was not sold at auction.

Hmm, has this car been sitting around for a while not driven, if so, I would have a professional mechanic look over everything at this point...

I have a 2006 a6 avant and it's at 203,000 miles right now the only issues I have had are the airbag recall and the AC doesn't work. If you maintain it and do all of the proper maintenance I'm sure urs should last a long time!

I now have 216,000 miles on my a6 avant, since last update I have only had one problem, the steering column lock module decided it didn't want to work any more. Unfortunately is isn't possible to only replace the failed part, you have to replace the whole steering column. This cost me $3,000 at the dealership. You can't do this repair yourself because the car has to be coded for a new key, and as far as I know nobody had "cracked" Audi's software yet.

My brother worked at an Audi dealer for a few years and he bought a 2002 A6 2.7L twin turbo. He got out and told me to look at the odometer. I was blown away to see it had around 280k miles on it. The engine was heavily serviced by its previous owner maintenance reports even say both turbos were replaced around 70k miles. It was a 1 owner car and the owner had definitely taken good care of the car. So again, as many people have said in this thread, it comes down to servicing it and if it was serviced well or maybe even excessively it will definetly get you far. Possibly to the point of doing another 131k. Check service records and if they look good service it well under your ownership. I recomend doing what my brother does with his A6 and give it an oil change even before the recommended mileage to give it a change.

I had a 2002 Audi A4 with 275,000 miles before my brother bought for his kids. They dove for a while and then sold. I now have a 2005 Audi A6 3.2 with 244,000 miles and it runs great. I also have a 2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI with 117,000 miles and it has been bullet proof so far. Take care of them and they will take care of you...
