Why won't AC compressor engage, coolant pressure is correct?

Asked by skipj1s Aug 30, 2012 at 11:55 AM about the 1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata M-Edition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

AC Compressor will not engage, when AC turned on.  Coolant is fine and AC lamp under AC switch illuminates.

You might check the connectors behind the glovebox (as facing the dashboard from passenger seat) almost directly behind the interior light on the passenger side. I've attached a 'dashless' photo with the connector highlighted. You can access easily from under the dash, though. It's a free first step before getting into repairs.
