Timing Chain Broke @ 70K, 2006 Passat

The Timing Chain on my 2006 Passat, 6 cylinder, broke at 70K.  I am curious what, if anything, I could have done to avoid this and have two somewhat silly questions.

Is there a shear bolt of some sort that will snap in case of some issue.  I am told there is a bolt that broke but not sure why.  And is there anyway the car could have been vandalized to have the Tiimng Chain break even when locked?

No way possible. That's about how many miles a timing belt or chain last. You need to replace your belt or chain every 60k-70k miles. Good luck.

I appreciate it, it puts my mind to ease (there has been some trouble in the neighborhood) and well a costly lesson, but a lesson learned indeed. On the next engine, lol, change it at 50K. I really like the car, this the model before the current ones, and it has absolutely no rust, and rarely driven. Seriously I would probably see 50K in 10, 12 years. Thanks.
