01 passat 1.8 turbo awm

Hi I just bought a 01 passat 1.8t off a kid that said
the Timing belt broke and pulled over right away
now I got the car I need help putting it back on
time. But a friend off mine said it was junk but I got
it to start only with the surpetine belt off and foot
to the floor on gas. And once I put the belt on it
dies wat can this be? Is it broke valves or off time

Check the timing to see if you put the belt on correctly. If the belt timing is correct, next run a compression test. My guess is that you have 1 or more bent valves.
