How to replace the connecting strip at both sides of the windshield

I have a Passat 1997 TDI 1.9, the connecting strip are old and broken, I bought a new one
and I need to know how to take out the old one and put instead the new one

For $50.00 I had a independent glass guy do the job like that a few years ago. I suggest you do the same. No leaking problems come this winter.
