what other electrical parts run the charging system on a 2002 vw beetle

we have replaced the battery with a new one, we have replaced the alternater with a pick
and pull and it was checked at napa, the car will only run till the battery dies, we were told
it might be the computer under the battery tray , but dont even know the actual name , im
lost

If the alternator was bench tested, it can tell you it's putting out voltage but does not test voltage regulator which is built in alternator. http://newbeetle.org/forums/1-8-liter-turbo/45170-intermittent-battery-light-voltage-regulator-replacement.html
