Volkswagen Beetle

Asked by 9LadyBug9 Mar 24, 2019 at 09:30 PM about the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle 2 Dr GLS Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So we needed a second vehicle for my wife to use
for work/getting the kids from school. We found a
99 VW Beetle for $500. Brought it home started her
right up but it was over heating. We've replaced the
water pump; still overheating. Replaced the
thermostat and radiator but it's still over heating.
But also when it's "overheating" the water/coolant
is boiling in the bowl you pour it in. So we took the
thermostat back out  since it don't HAVE to have it
right now. The fans haven't been working so we're
replacing them this weekend. Anyone else have an
idea where to go next?

Do a cylinder leak down test to see if the head gasket or head is cracked.
