Turbo problems

Asked by Slaya Nov 21, 2018 at 06:47 AM about the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving my car back home, using
“manual/standard” mode and driving between 60-
90mph between stops. I would shift engine right
before it hit the red ticks on the RPM gauge (yes I
know, probably not a good thing to do) but my
temperature gauge didn’t show signs of
overheating. Right before going home, I stopped at
a traffic light and noticed all the lights inside and
out the car were on as usual but I couldn’t feel the
car idle so I’m assuming the car (engine) died on
me. The battery light was also displaying once I
stopped. There was also light smoke seeping out
the hood. I turned the car off then tried to start it
back up but car would not start. The EPC light also
came on as well. Could the problem be from the
way I was shifting? Also I had just changed the
serpentine belt a couple weeks earlier after I died
out on the middle of the road and came to find my
serpentine belt was shredded to pieces with oil
splatters around the engine coming from
something/somewhere. Looking for possible
problems and advice, especially involving the use
of turbo cars...
