How can I be sure the ecu is bad?

Asked by jerryk101 Feb 21, 2016 at 04:18 PM about the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Jetta w/2.5 engine. The check engine light flashes when the car first starts then stays on.  The engine runs extremely rough while accelerating.  The OBDII scanner says misfires detected on cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5.

Is there a test I can run on the ECU to determine if it is the culprit?

Kinda sounds like bad fuel could be the issue. How long since it's had a good tune up? Plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, ect, ect,

change the 02 sensor...and report back~

O2 sensors (both) were replaced twice. I replaced them about 4 months ago. My daughter (her car), took it to a mechanic who also said they needed replaced so he replaced them also. Didn't have all the misfires at that point. Just the check engine light along with the code stating the 02 sensors needed replaced. The scanner no longer says anything about the sensors.

Sounds like the car may have overheated check your coils some could be broken you have 5 coils over the top of each plug due to it being a 5 cylinder and then report back after all I'm just a woman who knows what I may be correct on my ideal
