Engine problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I get under a quarter tank sometimes I'll
be cruising along and the engine will start to
sputter and then die like it is out of fuel or
something.  However, it will start right back up
and go for miles so I know it's not out of fuel
or the  fuel gauge off or something.  It never
does this with the tank full. What could it be?
A new fuel pump was put in about five years
ago, and I just changed the plugs and put in a
new fuel filter last month.  It is a 2002

Sometimes your condition Can be caused by a weak fuel pump. It is called a soft fail, as it is only when you get to a quarter tank and below. Up to you if you want to replace the fuel pump again, and or have a mechanic diagnose the condition to verify that it truly is the pump.

It is a bad idea to run around with under 1/4 of a tank of fuel. This can cause over heating of the fuel pump rendering it useless.
