Transfer case

Asked by Jul 10, 2017 at 04:30 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1999 Chevy suburban k1500 lt 5.7 engine. The
suburban was switched into 4 low  and driven over
55 mph. I don't know for how long but was told that
it was smoking from under neath around the
transmission. They switched it into 2hi and
continued driving. Now my trucks front end
vibrates at low speeds 25 to 35 mph. It also
vibrates when deceleration at speeds 55 to 70mph.
It does not vibrate if speed is steady at the higher
speeds. There is a metal clanking sound coming
from the front end also. The truck shifts gears fine
and there does not seem to have any other
symptoms. My question is this my transfer case or
could it be something completely different? I am
not a mechanic and could really use some advice.
Thank you
