how can i cool off my motor since it gets really hot easy but doesnt over heats??

hello guys im only 17 and this is my first car a 2001 jetta v4 automatic. and ive had
it since sep. 09 and ive put many mileage like 20,000 miles till this day ive currently
put a intake in it to save gas and improve speed. but lately it wont change shifts no
more i would have to pull to the side and start over . and also my motor gets hot
very easy but it doesnt over heat.. im not sure whats the problem but i need help plz
and thank you.

first off.. the intake isn't going to help you improve gas mileage and/or power. vw is pretty good at making their motors efficient. it sounds like what you are trying to say is your transmission isn't shifting? if thats the case, don't worry about fixing the motor, you need to fix the transmission. if the tranny was shifting then the motor wouldn't be overheating.
