Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So i Have a 98 VW Jetta and when driving it randomly dies, someone told me it
could be vapor lock. Its been in the 100F as of lately. I also replaced my fuel
pump lately, but got it from amazon so i dont know what is going on with my car.

My 98 vw golf did the same thing, it turned out to be the crankshaft sensor, mine was a 2L but its something for you to test. Grab a multimeter, test the sensors resistance value while cold then again once the engine quits. Im not sure of the exact specs for your car but mine was supposed to be between 500-800 ohms, it wouldnt start back up until it dipped back below 800

Carbureted cars can get vapor lock, with fuel injected cars not so much. A fuel pressure gauge can indicate what is going on with your fuel pump. You should try cleaning all sensors and filters and the throttle body.
