Automatic 98 vw golf shift cable linkage break

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I shift gears it is completely loose,
stuck in the last gear it was in before the
cable link broke. Do I have to buy a whole
new cable or is there a part that will
reattach it at the end?

I've seen ths video. Hes asking the same question and no answer is provided. I checked the comments below the video and they were incomplete or at least on my phone they are

I've been seaching all morning, the manual provided very little help and Icalled the vw dealer and they werent much help

the planes of hell and ignorance...just keep disassembling until you hit pay dirt...no thought to putting it back together...rip and tear Bruno~ I've lost tools inside a customer's VW Golf and they were too much in a hurry for me to extract them...quarters are tight with these and servicing them is not one of their design priorities...sounds so innocent "GOLF"...but the planes of hell will be dealt to the unwary mechanic~

New cable only...sorry just the messenger don't shoot me. It can not be repaired
