Chevy Lumina won't start?

Asked by Lauren Jan 26, 2014 at 02:47 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Lumina LS Sedan FWD

Question type: General

I have a 99 Lumina. We went to start it one day and nothing would come on so we
replaced the battery and it worked for a few days just fine then it died on us again. We
thought maybe we got a bad battery or something so autozone replaced it again.
When we went to start it nothing happened so we jumped it and it almost started but
died and now when we turn the key NOTHING happens. We replaced the alternator 6
months ago. Me and my husband are lost as to what could be wrong?

Check all your battery connections and frame/motor ground (negative) cables. They all must be clean and tight. Sure sounds like it could be a loose cable.

just cleaned the battery cables and got some lights to turn on, we're having someone come over to see if we can jump start it now:) hoping that was all it needed!!

Since battery was not fully charged I suspect that it was running only on what little battery charge you had and that the alternator is not performing properly. fully charge the battery. The next time you get it started check the voltage coming from the alternator. It should be 14.5 volts. If it's not remove it and have it tested.. Honestly it's probably bad
