Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car died while driving with no warning
signs... First throught was fuel pump but the
pump makes noise and the relay is working
properly. But is a no start crank sound of no
fuel.  Is there any reason the fuel pump
would be failed but still make the proper
noices?

After cranking pull a spark plug to see if fuel if making it into the cylinders, if so you probably don't have spark (ignition coil, crank position sensor or ignition control module), if not then the injectors arent firing or you may have a clogged fuel filter, bad ignition fuse/relay or camshaft position sensor. There are surely other causes but these are some things off the top of my head

I got plenty spark... All sounds and indications leads to fuel pump or filter but the pump makes noise when trying to crank however engine recieves no gas to fire. The filter shouldnt be that clogged and if the pump is making the right noise shouldnt the gas be getting to the engine? I rebuilt the car from groind up 3 years ago and havnt had a single problem untill it died once and now wont start.

One of the lines could have broken off the fuel pump module inside the tank, unlikely but possible. Did you pull a plug to see if gas is getting into the cylinder? Even a fuel pressure test wont tell you if the injectors are firing but a noid light will, I'm able to rent the kit from my local auto parts store but ive heard of people using LEDs instead

Havnt even thought to check injectors. The issues came on so suddenly i just cant get the fuel pump off my mind. The pump sounds like, if you had a mcdonalds soda and in the middle of the straw is a crack so your sucking air and a tiny bit of soda from under the crack comming up

Crank sensor, f.pump reservior cracked and filter clog seem to be the most plausable ideas so far

If the crank sensor was the issue you wouldn't have spark. From your description of the sound I would defiently be inspecting the fuel pump module, you may get lucky and have access to it under your back seat but with VW I wouldn't get my hopes up! Lol. (I had a 98 golf)

Access pannel is in the trunk so im lucky on that one. Maby cam sensor is what i ment. The thing is that usually when a sensor goes out it warns you with random miss fires and check engine light. This was all of a sudden car run perfect and die no warning

Not the crank sensor. Car will cut out while driving and not restart until the sensor cools back down (to whitin its resistance values) if at all

I replaced fuel filter, put in new distributor rotor and cap, and adjusted timing still getting same no start crank sound. Im getting spark from ignition coil, from cap and to plugs. What would you do next?

Have you pulled a spark plug after cranking for a few seconds to see if its wet with fuel yet? Or removed the fuel pump module itself and inspected it? If plugs are dry you could take the fuel line off the fuel rail (or filter) to see if fuel is making it that far which would point to no injector pulse. If no fuel there then the problem lies further back.

Im getting a code reader today i held off on messing with the car untill i could get a reader as i am an amateur and dont want to kill the starter cranking and testing. i will post the error codes in a while to see if can get some help out of that.
