Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently replaced the alternator in my 1998
VW Cabrio. Afterwards the engine cranks
but does not start and when trying to start
the car the speedometer indicator stick
wiggles at 0 miles per hour and the oil
pressure light flashes,  but it does not start.
Any ideas on what it could be?

1.8 or 2.8? I would check to make sure all the wires are attached properly after this as well should be 2 wires on the alternator. check out the spark as well might jsut have a bad coil
