92 vw cabriolet overheating

Asked by DadliestCatch Aug 20, 2017 at 02:10 PM about the 1995 Volkswagen Cabrio 2 Dr STD Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So the other day i was driving down the road like
normal my car has been running great and all a
sudden it started to overheat really bad and leaking
anti freeze i quickly pulled into to a gas station
shut the car off and after it stopped steaming
popped the hood. I let the car cool down for a while
and put more anti freeze in it, checked oil, water
was good. Anti freeze wasnt leaking anymore and
the car sounds fine when running. But it overheats
very fast now. I dont know whats wrong with it and
im hoping to get some insight before taking it to
auto zone and see if they can find out as i really
dont wanna drive ANYWHERE right now but work,
wich is probably 3 miles away. Is it safe driving
even that far? Could it be a really bad thing or does
this sound like a bad thermostat/ water pump?
Help prease.
