I have a 1995 VW Cabrio. While driving the car hestitates and when I came to a complete
stop the car died. Tried restarting, starter was turning, but car would not start. After sitting
for 20 minutes, car started, but was hesitating and check engine light would come on.
When giving it gas the check engine light would go off. Put a scanner on it, but could not
read as check engine light was off. HELP

sounds like an air issue. The car should come equipped with a MAF (mass air flow sensor) clean it with maf cleaner and see what happens. also check the thortal plate area for any signs of buildup and if you have not changed your spark plugs and distributor cap and rotor in a long time do that as well. you most likely have a dead spot on the rotor from old age. Be sure to number your wires and mark the caps postion incase you get confused puting it back on.

My 1995 Cabrio is doing the same thing. My plan is to change the fuel filter. I had a Dodge van that did the same thing, and changing the fuel filter fixed it. A clogged fuel filter also adds stress and wear to the fuel pump.

These cars have plenty of worthless sensors on them. I was having a problem with mine as well and replaced the.... (all these have to do with stalling and/or not starting by the way...) Crankshaft sensor. Transmission speed sensor. The typical plugs and wires, though I don't think one bit this has anything to do with yours., The Hall sensor is a big one that handles the proper voltage to the distributor just after it LEAVES the distributor and then goes back from the coil..... Oh, the headaches. Late nights of thinking and pulling out more hair that I can't afford to lose. The alcohollism caused by VW Inc. themselves..... I'm going back to the air cooled stuff and leaving this water cooled stuff from vdub alone!
