How Do you Calculate the "Instant Market Value" of a Car?

Asked by J. Curtis Jan 06, 2013 at 02:28 PM about the 2003 BMW M5 RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I've noted that same model same year cars on your site with mileage within 2k of each other are calculated differences in pricing of more than $1,000 dollars.

CarGurus - that was a completely useless answer. I currently have a car for sale that is only a "fair" deal. While another vehicle, same trim level, same miles, same options is valued $2,000 higher. I don't know why and I'd like to know. The color seems to be the only difference, and the other car is for sale at a dealer. Are dealer cars valued higher?

200

That's exactly what the difference is. Dealer cars have been serviced and typically have a warranty. They are going to be higher valued than a privately sold vehicle.
