Celica GT idles fine but won't accelarate (auto transmission).

Asked by PLW May 21, 2011 at 11:10 PM about the 1989 Toyota Celica GT-S Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am looking to buy a Celica that seems to shift from park to reverse/drive just fine but won't accelarate more than a few MPH. Doesn't help to shift to Low gear, either. Engine sounds great while in idle - revs up good - but bogs down when trying to go somewhere. Thoughts??
