How can I keep my car running another 100,000 mi?

1. Keep changing oil every 3,000 miles. 2. Make sure you change your timing belt every 100,000 miles, DO IT NOW if you haven't already. 3. Flush cooling system every 30,000 miles. 4. Change transmission fluid and filter every 30,000 miles. 5. Keep any rust under control -- make sure if it starts, you fix it so it doesn't spread. 6. Do all other maintenance as needed and good luck!
No reason it can't go another 100,000 or more if you follow littlehorn's suggestions ... the PBS radio program Car Talk encouraged use of well-made vehicles like the Honda Civic to their full life. Paying more now for less of an equivalent car just to have a "new" car is not, IMHO, a prudent financial move. I'd save the money paid into a new car and increased insurance payments for the future ... it will be worth more.
