Is this car worth putting any more money into?

My daughter has a 1987 4 door Honda Civic, manual transmission, 130,00 miles. Her alternator and battery need to be replaced. Is this car worth fixing? Someone told her they are good for 200,000-300,00 miles. Your answers will be greatly appreciated! She is a college student and doesn't have money for a new car. I have been helping her out and hate the thoughts of putting out money on something that may not be worth it.

it depends on u whether u love the car as much as ur self or just a toy ..
thats like 350-400 bucks if my car had only 130,000 i wouldnt even think once about fixing it because it would already be done. but you can always go to a wreacker and pick an alternator up for 20 and a battery for like another 20 and there you go but if she doesnt like the car then fix it and sell it cause a working car is worth more than a dead car. but thats just my opinion. good luck
i own a 93 civic( i know its not an 87) and myn has 350k+ miles (speedo quit so mileage is wrong). they run so good that im turboing it. they r great cars and they last almost forever! keep it and drive it

Thanks everybody for your responses. Your input is much appreciated! She does love the car. Like I said, I'm the one footing the bill right now and I just wanted some feedback from people like you who really know what the car is capable of. We found a mechanic who is going to look the car over and I think we will be fixing it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes. Those are relativly inexpensive parts and I have had an older civic myself, and from what I remember It never gave me much of a problem. Infact it had its original engine, clutch, and transmission up until 245k miles. in which timing belt, brakes, rear suspension, all needed changing. Civics are amazing in the way they are engineered. I would recommend if you are low on money to salvage the pieces and have them installed and a local mechanic shop or get a do it yourself manual to put them in.
If that's all that's wrong, its and easy fix, and well worth it. And if anything, fix it and sell it if you don't want it.
IF you have a Honda with only 130k miles, you have to fix it. If all you need to make it run is a battery and an alternator, DO IT NOW! Like others have said, you can sell it if she doesn't like it. You will get your money back and a lot more for a running Honda with only 130k miles on it.
