Input on a 4dr '88 Accord LXi

Asked by Aug 17, 2019 at 01:56 PM about the 1988 Honda Accord LXi

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

Having a very hard time back and
forth between keeping and selling
my 88 LXi, any input into if keeping it
is worth it or scrapping it is best is
very encouraged and needed.. Only
owned it 5 years, bought at a shady
garage 70 miles from home and
went thinking it was a prelude
instead..but loving older cars and
only $1500 and the 150 miles round
trip to get there and back we bought
it. All electric windows and sunroof
worked great, no antenna or wiper
fluid hose though. 115,000 miles but
was told it sat in storage many yrs
and was rushed to buy buy buy and
go. Ran wonderfully from March to
maybe late December or early
January and began stalling. Threw
baro sensor code. Also, it took
almost a full day to drain oil the
morons rigged it up with and the
thinner oil made more issues or well
sounds appear to us including a
knocking. But was so deep in the
block only one knowing what to
listen for heard it. Always ran better
in summer than teen temp weather
in AR. Changed main bearings, bad
pistons, rings, baro sensor
beginning of 2019 and knock did not
go away. So I quit driving it because
my husband, being a mechanic, said
the crankshaft was in horrible
shape. Put more into the car by 2x
than we paid but I love it and project
cars. Cannot find a crankshaft in my
area anywhere, Only rebuild kits but
it is beyond rebuilding. Idk if we
should scrap it or let it sit in the yard
fighting the seasons any longer..
almost 6 months in search of a
crankshaft in the area but it's a rare
car in this area, we rarely see any
80s model Hondas at all.
