ok patty, not sure what pan you are talking about?? the reason the gas comes out more when you start the car is because the fuel pump is pumping. It sounds to me like maybe you have a leak in the fuel line and it is running out of this 'pan". The pan could be a heat shield or something. for goodness sake kiddo, don't run the car! fuel leaks can catch fire easily. you are going to have to trace the fuel line and check for leaks and /or loose connections. please forgive me for sounding like a Dad, but you should never put your phone number here!! people will respond this way. its safer! ok hope my suggestions help, good luck!

SL's from all years are absolutely fun to drive cars. However, they can be very expensive to maintain. You can find 20yr models that the owners just did normal service on and never had a problem. Then there are fairly new models that have just eaten an owners bank account up. The ones that are driven regularly and have been maintained well (oil, brake and transmission fluid changes) seem to be the most trouble free - regardless of age and mileage. The local MB dealer says the most expensive repairs come from SL's that have been driven very little and sit for long periods of time. An MB product is built to be run every day.
