Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 CLK 320 wont crank - nothing happens I have 2 set of keys tried them both but
same thing, the steering lock works as I turn the key to ON - I can hear the Fan go
thats about it. Similar thing happened to me a few years back and dealer charged me
$1900 to replace me-sfi control module # 112153857988

Can I just buy a similar ECU # 112153857988 e.g.
http://www.benzpartswholesale.com/OEMParts/mercedes-benz-
137/1/112153857988.html and put in or does it have to be reprogrammed by dealer

what else can I do
thanks

My 05 C230 did the same thing and it was just a dead battery even though everything else came on it would just click when I went to crank.

Im pretty sure the control module will need to be reprogrammed. Have you checked for any codes?

No codes because the old battery was dead so now it has the new bat my main concern is can I just put in a new ECM or does the dealer have to program it?

you have a starter relay and a fuse in the circuit that could be bad. There is a service bulletin on the no start that requires a greater amperage fuse to be installed in the circuit. Fuse #52 in the driver's side fuse box under the hood powers your starter and came from the factory as a 15 amp fuse. The fuse has been replaced by a 20 amp fuse because the 15 amp was not heavy enough for the load. There's a good chance that the fuse is all that is wrong.

I wish it was that - but I already did that with no luck - even put the car in N to try to check if it starts but no go

yes all over - but because something similar happened to me before I think its the same thing again
