My guess would be bad valve seals or one or more worn valve guides.

Well, what color smoke? If it's black smoke, you're running rich , if it's white smoke you're burning oil. Black smoke can be cause by anything that will cause the car to run rich. faulty O2 sensor, sticking injector, bad plugs, faulty ignition system. White smoke can be caused by worn rings , worn valve seals, anything that will allow oil into the combustion chamber. How much miles you have on the car?

Sorry i know this was an old post but i just wana know my wifes merc c200 kompressor the car smokes every now and then,it comes and goes i took off the intake manifold and it hade oil inside it. I have spoken to numerous of people they say the cause is usually the oneway return valve that comes directly from the sump if this is the case could you be so kind to confirm if this can cause smoke to come and go if the valve is faulty. The smoke comes just over 3000rpm..... regards Peter
