2000 230 Kompressor has -730 flashing on speedometer where miles usually are?

Has a clock/wrench  -730 flashing on speedo for about a minute and then goes to the miles on speedo. What does this mean?

Either you're only 730 miles from the next scheduled service OR you're 730 miles past you're scheduled service.

Thank you! Mick This is on my Dads Kompressor and he is 78yrs old and is starting to get forgetfull. He will be glad you helped him out with this issue. (Has this always flashed or does it start when a service is getting close to due?)
