2003 camry won't start

Asked by Tracy Jul 11, 2014 at 04:10 PM about the 2003 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Turned key to start car, got nothing, no
sounds at all, not even a click. After 20 to
30 mins car started up. Took car to shop,
alternator rebuilt, now car turns over but
wont start. I told the mechanic to check the
starter. If this doesn't work, what are some
other suggestions?

If engine is turning over the starter is good. Need to find out if the plugs are firing and is it getting fuel.

Mechanic says its firing. Could it be a relay or sensor? If so could someone point me in which direction to start. This is my only means of transportation so I need it back ASAP. Thanks!

Oh, mechanic says it's idling too low which was pulling on alternator.

Idling to low is a sign of a dirty/faulty idle air control valve and or dirty throttle plate. Has he checked the fuel pressure? This will eliminate possible fuel pump issue.

Mechanic called right before he closed the shop for today. He said that he switched out the battery and the car started, he put my battery back in and it started but was idling low. I completely forgot to tell him to drive it for about 10 miles for the car to reset. Hoping that will do it, after he has the brushes looked at in the starter. Thanks for all your suggestions. If what he is doing now (starter) doesn't help or the resetting of the computer doesn't work, I will definitely point these things out that have been suggested. Thank you again!
