Ok got a 2003 2500 5.9 changed injection pump and
injectors and fuel filter ..... had trouble getting it going
again and it ran rough as hell huge clouds of white and
black smoke at first then went to black.... sounds like its
idling fine now until you throttle up starts clattering what
should i check .... reason everything was changed was
due to excessive water in fuel i pumped bout 30 gallons of
straight water from the tank before repairs
Are you sure about the pump timing?
Are you sure you got all the water out? Water is hard as hell on injectors.
Well we cleaned the tank filled it with clean diesel and ran it a good 30 minutes to an hour before taking all injectors out , and as far as pump timing the gear Fell forward when installing the pump so i just put it in the shaft as pump was put rest of the way in....
So you really don't know if it's timed right, you might want to have that checked, you could blow a piston or crack a cylinder head if it's not set right.
10/4 ill get on that first thing in the morning and let yall know thanks
Ok got the front cover off this morning and turns out the gear for the pump did rotate atleast 14-15 teeth away from where it needed to be.... so. Now its running as it should thanks again
Whew, you dodged a bullet on that one, hopefully the water didn't damage anything else, but with a diesel you usually notice if things aren't quite right really fast. Good luck, drive safe.
Thanks now just gotta figure out why i have way more smoke than before ... blows smoke for more than a 1/4 mile and when u barely touch the throttle
Is it white smoke or black? White is air in the fuel system, black is too much fuel.
