2003 Dodge 2500 with hemi engine will start after running seems to starve for gas and has backfired through the K&N breather?

After feathering the gas it seems to run fine for awhile and then will do it again sometimes.  The read out says intermediate fuel pressure.  Does this mean the fuel pump needs to be replaced or is there a sensor that needs to be reset or what exactly can be done the least expensive way.

Usually when an engine backfires, it's an ignition timing problem. Unfortunately with modern vehicles they don't have distributors and the timing and fuel injection is controlled by the ECM.
