Truck wont work

Asked by Guru54LQV Dec 16, 2017 at 12:49 PM about the 2001 Dodge RAM 2500 ST LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck will idle for as long as I want it to,
however once i put it intindrive and go about a mile
I lose my battery gage and smell anti freeze I'm not
sure if this is my heater core being bad or my PCM
because my truck had gone into water during a
flood. We got the alternator checked and it's
charging the batter and our battery is good it just
still won't drive almost like the battery is being
drained immediately or the electrical systems
aren't responding. Please help don't know what to
do

Clean and tighten all the battery connections. The anti-freeze smell is probably unrelated. Is the passenger floor carpet wet?

We have cleaned and changed the battery connections at least 3 times new with all new connectors. The passenger floor isn't wet just simply I lose my gages once I'm driving and my battery won't charge then it just dies and I have to get a jump on a perfectly charged battery, this is why we think it is the PCM module we just don't know. I can't see why our alternator is good yet won't charge the battery could this be due to the car being in water at one point? As soon as I drive the truck doesn't like it but I can idle it all day.

We actually put a new ground in yesterday thinking it may have been a faulty wiring job but this is still occurring. My grandpa is convinced if he buys a new PCM it will fix it but that's almost 400$ and I think it's more than that. It's almost like it takes my truck a minute to not wanna run it'll start and idle fine even drive fine for a minute then I lose my gages it begins to misfire and I have to get it jumped.
