i have a chipped 5.9 and my ext temp is sky rocketing all of a sudden even in 3 gear at 2000rpm

I have no idea what your chip is doing to your engine but my guess is that there is too much unburned fuel going into the exhaust. http://www.dieselmanor.com/isspro/pyrometer_basics.htm
