My transmission

Asked by Petty Jun 28, 2017 at 09:18 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 2500 Laramie SLT Club Cab LB RWD

Question type: General

I Have A 1996 Dodge Ram Ext. Cab And My
Truck Will Not Engage In Reverse. It Will Rev,
As If It's Stuck In Park Or Neutral. If You Wait
A While Or Maybe A Day, The Truck Runs
Fine. But After It Heats Up, It Doesn't Want
To Pull In First Gear. After 1st, It Drives
Perfectly Fine.

There is a low/reverse band that needs adjusting. Its usually a sign that the trans is on its last leg but an adjustment might buy you a little time. Its a little complicated for someone that does not have mechanical knowledge and I would suggest taking it to a repair shop. Most likely you should plan on fixing or replacing the transmission in the near or not too distant future.
